Harley-Davidson is one of the few American brands that have not only become a house hold name but also managed to expand out of just being motorcycles and motorcycle parts into making a whole industry off of their brand name merchandise of every kind be it Harley-Davidson clothing, mugs, suitcases, anything. Harley-Davidson has fully and efficiently made an empire off of their name alone.
In many regards it is not all that surprising that Harley-Davidson became one of the most popular motorcycles in the United States. Harley-Davidson is known more than anything for being both high quality motorcycles as well as big motorcycles which maybe explains why they are truly an American brand and never picked up in popularity in other countries where gas is normally around four times as expensive as the low prices that we enjoy in the United States. While Harley-Davidson motorcycles still generally get good gas milage compared to small cars or anything similar, they are for sure on the bigger end still of motorcycles.
For over one-hundred years now Harley-Davidson motorcycles have grown and changed along with the country itself and has gone through a number of different phases. Early on Harley-Davidson faced hardships because of the rocky and often times uncertain times in the early twentieth century. Just like most of the history of the United States there were some period in which production was booming and everyone thought that they were going to be rich for ever and then there were other times where everyone lost everything and it seemed that the sky was crashing down upon us. It was during some of those more difficult times that Harley-Davidson got its start. After the wrap up of World War II things started to go back to normal as much as possible and manufactures were able to go back to focusing on their own product rather than having to strain constantly in order to help the country in its war efforts.
After that hurdle was finally cleared and people started to have more money and freedom again it did not take that long for people, mostly adventurers, to catch on to Harley-Davidsons and from that point on their popularity continued to rise. From that point the hype around the culture around Harley-Davidson has probably grown to be even more of a sticking point for why people choose Harley-Davidson. After all, there are a number of different companies that make great motorcycles and depending on what you are looking for and what you want some of the other manufactures, particularly the Japanese, might have slightly better features or products but no matter what none of them have the feel and following as Harley-Davidsons. The people who go out and buy Harley-Davidsons are the same people who are no doubt also the people who are wearing a Harley-Davidson t-shirt along with their Harley-Davidson bandana. There is an insane amount of pride that goes into Harley-Davidson owners that is not matched by any other motorcycle company out there and that is what makes Harley-Davidsons special.
