One of my best friends, Harriet, has been trying to convince for to get into dirt bikes for a long time. I have always been pretty skeptical about getting into it, I am just not a dare devil type. I did really enjoy going to all of the dirt bike expos though. Watching the guys and girls on the dirt bikes racing around the track and flying across jumps is a lot of fun and really impressive. I always cringe when someone wipes out, I am not good with blood and broken bones. So much to my Harriet’s dismay she had a really hard time convincing me to get on a dirt bike.
About a year ago I met a guy, David, who was an avid motorcyclist. He rode everywhere and did long trips on his bike. I was really anxious to get on the bike with him at first but after a couple of rides I would always ask him to pick me up on the bike. After a few months of dating I mentioned that my friend Harriet is really into dirt bikes. He asked why I had never tried it and I explained to him my fear of getting hurt. He understood and we left the conversation alone for a month or so when an opportunity arose for us to go dirt biking. I really didn’t want to back down. We went with Harriet up into the beautiful Rocky Mountains for our dirt bike experience. I was really nervous and scared. David and Harriet both promised me that they would walk me through everything and that we would take it nice and slow. Neither of them wanted me to get hurt and give up. They made me feel really comfortable and after an hour or so of going maybe 2 miles an hour I started to feel a little more comfortable. By the end of the day I was convinced that I would never learn how to figure it out.
We went up a few more times and each time I got more and more comfortable, much to my surprise. After a few months I was ready to get my own dirt bike and David and Harriet could not have been more thrilled. David took me to Sun Enterprise in Denver, a motorcycle, ATV and dirt bike store. They had a huge selection and I had no idea what I was looking for. Everyone at Sun Enterprise was really helpful and friendly. Nobody pushed me to get into something I wasn’t comfortable with. I ended up getting a dirt bike that fit me perfectly. It was almost like the bike was made just for me. I could even go back and have Sun personalize my bike even more. I really wanted an orange bike and I think in a few months I will have them paint it orange.
I am now riding my dirt bike with David and Harriet almost every weekend. I am so glad that I have my own bike and overcame my fear!
